Wonderful Dartmoor

We are nestled between Dartmoor and the stunning South Devon coast. Many of our guests enjoy a stroll or hike on Dartmoor & we're on hand to give you some great tips for places to go to experience awesome views, ancient woodlands, wild swimming spots & of course- places to stop for terrific food.

We especially enjoy Bench Tor, with it's ancient woodland walk below down to The Dart (great for a swim) & on to Venford Reservoir before hopping down to Holne to the great village cafe or The Church House Inn. We also love Hemeldown & walking into Widecombe for a terrific lunch at The Cafe on The Green.

For an easier walk that still takes in Dartmoor, including beautiful Lustleigh, walk from Parke at Bovey Tracey to Lusteligh via Pullabrook Woods.

See our blogs & guidebook for more info & ideas.

Eat your heart out!

You might join us in The Bakehouse for a private woodfired cookery class & occasionally we fire up the woodfired oven & supply woodfired pizzas!

We are lucky to have a brilliant local just a few minutes walk away- The Church House Inn where you can expect a wonderful meal but there's no shortage of other brilliant local eateries- our favourites being;

See our guidebook for lots more ideas for shopping & eating.

Dartington Hall.jpg

Lovely Dartington Hall- walks, cafe, pub, cinema, events & concerts

Other walks & gardens
We are close to Dartington Hall with its lovely gardens & riverside walks.

The gardens are not dog friendly but the other walks are & there's a great cafe- The Green Table on the estate.

There are loads of National Trust properties nearby too- our favourite it Coleton Fishacre.

We are within striking distance of Endsleigh Gardens, The Garden House & Mothecombe Gardens

There's a lovely coastal walk that takes in Newton Ferrers - see our blog

The Eden Project is easily reachable- has some brilliant music events over the Summer season & well worth a trip.

See our online guidebook for lots more ideas

Visit "twinned with Narnia" Totnes

There are so many reasons to visit Totnes- it's quirky, independent, beautiful & full of terrific independent shops, pubs, cafes & more.  We always say the extraordinary is ordinary in Totnes.

There's a bustling market on Fridays & Saturdays where you can buy all manner of food, drink, antiques & alternative items. Monthly food markets showcase the wonderful range of local food & drink. Visit Totnes info here.

You might also visit Totnes Castle.

You can walk to Totnes along the Access for All path from Dartington & you can walk from Totnes to Sharpham- a beautiful walk overlooking the Dart.

Plenty more info in our blogs

More activities?

Cycling- we are on National Cycle Route 2.  Devon lanes are extremely hilly so we only recommend cycling locally if you're experienced (and fit!).  We are keen cyclists and can recommend routes for you.

For easier & very enjoyable routes, we highly recommend cycling from Saltram House to Tavistock or undertaking the Exe Estuary route from Starcross to Exmouth & back.

Water Sports

You can take lessons & hire equipment at Bigbury & on the Dart in Totnes.

Horse riding

There are some amazing rides to be had on Dartmoor-give it a go!

Wild Swimming

We can recommend spots on The Dart.

KIND WORDS

Thank you to Emma & Kevin for creating such a  perfect space for deep relaxation.  We decided to stay here for the final nights of our baby-moon and it was just what we needed. Special thanks to Kevin for preparing the hot tub for our first evening. The stars were out & it was stunning. The Luscombe elderflower fizz was lovely. We'll definitely be recommending  you to friends & family and would love to return.
